The National Stadium of Malaysia - Malaysia Sports Tourism

Assalamualaikum and hye everyone.

My name is Aida Fatmi binti Mohd Zamri. So basically, since this blog we dedicated special for tourism purpose, so I would like to share with you, the readers of this blog, one of the many interesting places to visit in Malaysia. Do you love sports? I do. I love to watch football. So if you are on the same boat as mine, you will surely love this place.

The National Stadium of Malaysia

This is the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, the national stadium of Malaysia, one of the prides of Malaysia. It is located at Bukit Jalil and part of the National Sports Complex of Malaysia. If you love sports, then this is one of the must visit places in Malaysia. It is the place where Malaysians gather and unite with the same passion toward sports especially football.

Designed to host a multitude of events, the National Stadium is the central and most prominent sports building in Malaysia. The Bukit Jalil's capacity makes it the 25th largest stadium in the world and the 9th largest football stadium in the world. It is also the largest stadium in Southeast Asia.

The elliptical outdoor stadium has a total area of 76,000 sq. m. and its classic bowl shape is enhanced by its dramatic overlapping of three spectator tiers. Built to world class standards, its modern facilities are ideal for athletic meets and international football matches.

The History
The stadium was built back in 1997, on the 1st January in conjunctions to Malaysia chosen as the host for the 1998 Commonwealth Games. The stadium finished its construction exactly one year after the construction started, which is on the 1st January 1998.  After the 1998 Commonwealth Games ended in September, the stadium became the Home stadium for the Malaysia national football team, replacing the Shah Alam Stadium and the Merdeka Stadium.

Events
Many of the most important sport events of Malaysia will be held here in this National Stadium including Malaysia Cup Final, 2007 Asian Cup, and the latest one is the AFF Suzuki Cup which will be held from 24 November to 22 December this year, 2012.

Besides hosting sport games, this stadium is also used to become the venue for most of the concerts from various notable music artists coming to Malaysia including:

  • Rain World Tour [Rain's Coming] on January 27, 2007
  • Kelly Clarkson All I Ever Wanted World Tour Live in Malaysia, April 2010
  • Usher Live in Malaysia, July 2010
  • Paramore on their Brand New Eyes World Tour October 19, 2010

If you love sports, and enjoy sports as much as I do, then you should consider coming to Malaysia. Since Malaysia has been awarded as the ASIA’S LEADING SPORTS TOURISM DESTINATION in 2011, there is no other country in Asia that can give you the same passion and spirit in sports beside Malaysia. Motor sports, golfing, mountain climbing, cave exploration, water sports, football, we have it all.

Notes: Bukit Jalil National Stadium is the best place to experience the passion towards football among the Malaysians. Come and join us, be part of us and let us share the spirit of being a true football supporter :)
