Istana Seri Menanti

Istana Seri Menanti was located in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan. It is old building, now, as it a legacy of history,  the role of this castle has changed into museum. It is unique castle which is made from wood. Istana Seri Menanti was constructed according to the achitecture community Minangkabau. It was built on 1902 and finally complete on 1908 for Istana Pulih was burned by British troops during the chase when the was Yamtuan Antah at Bukit Putus, Negeri Sembilan.


Istana Seri Menanti is four storey palace. The plan had originally been designed by the two craftsmen Malay named Kahar and Taib. The palace has 99 poles, four poles 67 feet in length tie. The four pillars were taken from Hill Pergai, Jelebu. Other wood taken from Bukit Tinggi, penak, the type of wood. The uniqueness of this palace is that it does not use any iron nails but it's nails wooden pegs called. Hardwood pegs used to connect the board. This palace roof represent buffalo horns. Buffalo horn is considered as a symbol of peace.

The palace was used foe ceremonial audience held every three years. Istana Seri Menanti also was used by the Islamic Religious Council Negeri Sembilan to be turned into the High Scholl of Religion in1959 until 1964. The the palace was empty without occupants until the year 1992. The realization DYMM Tuanku Ja'afar ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the palace was officially gazetted as a Royal Museum. It was officially opened on 14 July 1992.

From now on this is the Muzium Diraja Istana Lama Seri Menanti has been converted by exhibit the royal family collections. Each room has been filled without changing the original design palace to explain the function of the space.
