Terengganu State Museum


Assalamualaikum... My name is Nor Nabila bt Abd Wahab. l would like to share some information about Terengganu State Museum. For your information, this museum is located on 27 hectares of land in Bukit Losong, Kuala Terengganu. The complex itself is an impressive architectural feature, based on the ancient Terengganu palace designs and architectures. Terengganu State Museum also acclaimed as the largest of its kind in Malaysia. Furthermore, it comprises a Main Museum, a Maritime Museum, a Fisheries Museum, 4 Traditional houses and also botanic and herb gardens.

Herbs and botanic garden is well-maintained in the vicinity of the museum. At the main entrance, the original Arabic Jawi text inscription of Islamic religious decree Inscribed Stone or "Batu Bersurat" of  Terengganu is prominently displayed, which proves the earliest acceptance of Islamic teachings in the Malay Peninsula. The maritime complex, the restored original old palaces and traditional boats used by sea-faring locals are also prominently displayed in the compound.





At the main museum,  you will able to see :

- Natural History : Exhibits include rocks and minerals such as gold, iron ore and coal, specimens of flora and fauna found in the state of Terengganu. Many of these artifacts show the way of life of the people a few decades ago.

-Textile Gallery : This gallery explains the production process of locally made textiles and displays examples of traditional garments worn at weddings and other ceremonial occasions.




-Royal Gallery : Provides a historical family tree of the Terengganu royal family and showcase royal paraphernalia, royal krises, palace household items and also medals and gifts received from abroad and locally.

-Craft Gallery : in here, you can see a local traditional handicrafts such as brass making, weaving, gold and silver ornaments and weapons, especially krises.

-Petroleum Gallery : Is a one of the main revenue generator for Tengganu state. It shows the history of petroleum in Malaysia and model of the first oil rig.


-Islamic Gallery : The Inscribed Stone that was discovered shows the Islamic propagation and existance of Jawi in the region. Other related artifacts are also shown here.


-Historical Gallery : Here you can trace human development in region from pre-historic times up to the present time. Pottery and coins are among the exhibits.
